A while ago I asked her whether this is doable with children. Thanks for your responses. A blog of ‘Traveling the Young Ones’ was the push we needed. On to Ha Giang with our 3 boys aged 7-11-13 years.
In short: the last 4 days we were on the motorbike, everything was perfectly arranged by Dung Vu from Mama’s homestay. The preparation was well taken care of, we had a great easy rider. Big thanks to our head driver Thắng Nguyễn who really went above and beyond to give us a great time. He also turned out to be a great photographer 😃. We had 3 easy riders, my husband rode with the youngest on the back.
It is quite unusual to do this with (young) children. We were also an attraction ourselves ☺️ We haven’t encountered anyone else who did this except for the locals. I would not recommend much younger in age either, your child should of course not fall asleep. Children’s helmets were not there so but used the smallest women’s size with a cap underneath which was fine. Added a video of the most exciting part and the worst part of the road 😅 for an impression.
As mentioned here several times: this is such a fantastic experience that we really didn’t want to miss it. Very glad we did this and dared. Roads were also great for me. Almost everything was paved except for a few small pieces. When in doubt: do it! To ask? Feel free to send me a PM.
And last tip: if you are sitting on the back: be sure to bring a selfie stick (3.50 € with action) that is really handy.

Dung Vu is a young and energetic woman who runs this super clean and super fancy homestay and hostel in Hà Giang. She was so helpful in booking me a transfer from and to Hanoi, renting me a fully equipped Honda Blade, and giving me all the info I needed via WhatsApp before and during my tour on the loop.
The place is the cleanest, quietest, and safest place I stayed (I traveled a lot), and this is important when you travel solo.
I think I have a new friend here in Vietnam, I will come back to visit you soon, so we can go again to the hairdresser together.

Dear travelers, Mama’s is the best place to start the Ha Giang loop. This is the perfect example of how a great hostel should be. It is located in the heart of Ha Giang city. The staff is amazing and will do everything to help you out.
The hostel is spotlessly clean and each bed has also curtains to allow you privacy in a dorm setup. I highly recommend Mama’s house.
Not just making new friends, it’s more like creating a family abroad!

My stay at Mama’s House was perfect. Upon arrival, we got picked up from the bus station and brought to the hostel. The dorm is very spacious with a/c and every bed has its own small fan and USB plugins to charge the phone. Breakfast was included in the price, and really good! The owner of the hostel helped us as well with renting us (almost new) motorbikes and gave us lots of information about the loop and about day trips in the area. We could leave our bags at the hostel and upon return, the owner also arranged our onward bus. Would definitely stay here again!
